Workshop – Collaborating Around Collections

Australian cultural institutions hold growing digital collections: a major resource, and a platform for access, engagement and research; they also come with challenges that will require new knowledge, innovative practice, and ongoing investigation. Emerging lab models and collaborative initiatives within the GLAM sector show great promise; so how can universities best work with the GLAM sector to help realise the potential of our digital collections? This one-day workshop aims to support future collaborations through:

  • Understanding what’s already working through cross-sector case studies;
  • Establishing shared aims and agendas for broader collaboration
  • Mapping challenges and opportunities across both sectors

Speakers will include:

  • Seb Chan – Chief eXperience Officer, Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne
  • Alexandra Marsden – National Director, Museums Galleries Australia
  • Ingrid Mason – GLAM / eResearch specialist, AARNET
  • Paula Bray – Lab leader, dxLab, State Library of New South Wales
  • Tim Sherratt – Heritage hacker & Associate Professor, University of Canberra
  • Elisa de Courcy & Martyn Jolly – Heritage in the Limelight ARC, ANU School of Art & Design
  • Kate Sweetapple & Jacqui Lorber-Kasunic – Visual Communication, University of Technology, Sydney
  • Ely Wallis & Hamish Holewa – Museum Victoria, Biodiversity Heritage Library, Atlas of Living Australia
