The Art Association of Australia and New Zealand is pleased to announce the winners, highly commended and grant recipients for 2020.

AWAPAs
The 2020 AWAPAs acknowledge the best in art writing, publishing and research across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. This year entries were received from over 25 institutions and organisations from 11 cities and regions.

RESEARCH IN FOCUS
Due to COVID-19 the annual PhD Prize was changed to a digital format and opened up to include students currently completing their doctorate. The Research in Focus Award asked entrants to create a video presentation using the PechaKucha format: a talk utilising 20 slides each shown for a duration of no more than 20 seconds. PechaKucha, meaning ‘chit chat’ in Japanese allows entrants to rehearse in advance while encouraging a more conversational style of speaking.

AIAH RESEARCH GRANTS
AAANZ is pleased to partner with the Australian Institute of Art History to administer the inaugural AIAH Research Grants. These made available 10 grants of $5,000 for Emerging, Independent and Institutional researchers, museum and gallery professionals and academics. The grants support research and/or publication and presentation activities in art history.
