Abstract Subject:Studio is the latest exhibition of work by Susan Ecker. As always, she is a keen observer of the spaces around her. This work explores the studios of artists in some thirty paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings. The artist’s work bares traces of its place of creation. This becomes more apparent when the studio is the subject. To Susan Ecker, the studio is a place of the mind, deeply intuitive to the nature of painting and, more broadly, any creative work. Rarely is one granted candid access to these spaces. Susan Ecker offers this unique glimpse of the contents, context and idiosyncrasies of the studio in this compelling exhibition. This publication includes full colour reproductions of Ecker’s work, along with an extensive essay by Sam Beard on aspects of Ecker’s work, life and this particular series paintings.
