The Directory generated by the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand (AAANZ), in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Art History (AIAH) and the International Committee for the History of Art (CIHA), operates primarily with Personal Information which will be collected, stored and maintained by AAANZ under the following conditions.
Collection of Personal Information
Personal Information is collected for the exclusive purpose of constructing this directory. The majority of information will be collected by means of webform or by email. In some cases, we will collect information from public sources, chiefly institutional websites. In these instances, we will take steps to make you aware of this process and allow you to vet this information.
Storage/Hosting of Personal Information
The data collected will be stored and hosted by AAANZ. It will be stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse and loss and from unauthorized access, modification or disclosure. At your request, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify your Personal Information should you no longer wish to be included.
Maintenance of Personal Information
We will seek to keep all information up to date. If you find that any information published is not up-to-date or accurate, please advise us as soon as possible and we will update this.
Disclosure of Personal Information
We will only publish information collected for the directory, that sits within the structure of the directory. No additional Personal Information will be disclosed unless under the following circumstances:
- In instances where you request/consent to the disclosure
- Where required to or authorised by law
Notes on Sensitive Information
Sensitive information is defined in the Privacy Act to include information or opinion about such things as an individual’s racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political association, religious or philosophical beliefs, membership of a trade union or other professional body, criminal record or health information.
Sensitive information will be used by us only:
- For the primary purpose for which it was obtained
- For a secondary purpose that is directly related to the primary purpose
- With your consent; or where required or authorised by law.
Public Statements Based on Information in the Directory
The Association may from time to time make public statements in the media or through other channels based on information found in the directory, for example about the number of art and art history researchers in Australia and New Zealand or about the dollar amount of research funding received. Such statements will make no reference to individual researchers.
Tracking of User Statistics
The Directory collects information about usage of the site by individuals who enter their own information and by visitors to the site.
Privacy Act
We will operate under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (the Privacy Act). The APPs govern the way in which we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your Personal Information.
