ABOUT THE ROLE
With a focus on collaborative and cooperative research, Field Directors are key members of the Site and Space in Southeast Asia project team. Working closely with the Project Director, Field Directors will help lead their respective teams, working to shape both a collective research agenda and individual research directions. Field Directors will also assist in organizing and coordinating field research, team presentations at whole-of-cohort seminars, and other intellectual and practical aspects of the project. This significant commitment offers the opportunity to develop new research, collaborate with colleagues from across the region and around the world, and contribute instrumentally to shaping this innovative and exciting project. In addition to fully-funded participation in the project and major grant experience, Field Directors will be given a small honorarium for their service.
CANDIDATE CRITERIA
The ideal Huế Field Director will be an early to mid-career scholar with a specialisation in art or architectural history, urban studies with an interest in visual cultures, or a related field. Experience working in Huế or Vietnam, and strong facility in Vietnamese is strongly desired. A successful Field Director will demonstrate significant research capabilities, including experience or a strong interest in site-based research and in the history of Vietnamese art, architecture, and/or landscape, as well as the capacity to think generously and productively about the research agendas of other team members. They will have strong organisational skills and the ability to think strategically about practical aspects related to field work. Knowledge of and/or strong interest in digital approaches to site-based research is preferred, but not required. As the Field Director will largely operate remotely, Field Directors may be affiliated with institutions anywhere in the world
