Call for Expressions of Interest in Editing ANZJA 2026-2028

AAANZ is calling for expressions of interest from new editors for the Australian New Zealand Journal of Art for a three year term from 2026-2028.

The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Art is the regions principal refereed art history journal. The Journal is dedicated to the study of art history broadly conceived, including art practice, art theory and art curatorship and exhibition development. From 2026 we are proposing a new model for editing the journal with a team of editors, rather than a single editor in chief.

The new committee would be invited to help shape the roles and workflow of this new team but our suggestion is along the lines of: One editor in chief who can house the journal within their school/department and who is in a position to manage a budget and minor overheads (postage), and casual paid position/s.

A committee of 2-4 people who can come from different institutions who could share editorial roles or take on specific roles (review editor etc) – at this stage these would be service roles so would be unpaid (but a new committee could investigate opportunities for funding for sessional and unwaged editors).

Ideally this could be a mix of more senior researchers and early career researchers. There is provision for some paid support work on a casual basis, this could be a single role based at the home institution (in previous years the journal has had approximately $15,000 per annum to employ a Managing Editor to oversee the journal’s operations, pay for additional copyediting, and a social media manager for the journal’s Instagram page).

Taylor and Francis covers the costs of printing and distribution, and provides a portal for submissions. Access to the digital edition is jointly managed between Taylor and Francis and the Association. For a more detail overview of the journal, budget and scope please see the link below.

Editing the journal is a great opportunity to take on a professional service role, and to help shape research, debates and critical issues for our field. If you are interested in taking on an editing role related to the journal (either to house the journal or to be part of the team) please fill in this Expression of Interest to indicate your interest, skills and ideas for the development of the journal.

Deadline for EOI – February 27th.
