AAANZ 2024 CONFERENCE | PAST, PRESENT, POSSIBLE FUTURES

Australian National University, Canberra, Wednesday 4 – Friday 6 December 2024

CALL FOR PAPERS NOW OPEN

The 2024 AAANZ Conference coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Art Association of Australia and New Zealand. This year the conference encourages participants to explore the past, present, possible futures of art history, curating, and creative practice in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.

We now have 35 panels seeking paper proposals, and a further 15 panels being specially curated with speakers from across the region.

If you would like to deliver a paper at the conference, you can now apply to join one of the panels listed on our website.

Included are panels that speak to Indigenous histories and futurities across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Pacific Region. Other panels explore art production from pre-1800, to modern and contemporary art, to the interrelationship between Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand with Asian art, to fashion, film and the new museum. The list of panel convenors includes some of our region’s most exciting art scholars and curators.

The conference will be of interest to art historians from all time periods, artists and museum/gallery workers, and we welcome speakers from across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific Region. We especially welcome proposals from Indigenous delegates.

For the complete list of panels, as well as instructions on how to apply, please visit the conference website here

All paper proposals will be due by Wednesday 31 July 2024.
