Design and Art of Australia Online (www.daao.org.au) is the next generation of the Dictionary of Australian Artists Online, which in turn had its origins in Joan Kerr’s Dictionary of Australian Artists. Despite its incomplete state, the DAAO is already the most comprehensive data base on Australian visual culture, and as such is proving to be a valuable research tool. freely available to all.

Its new iteration enables researchers to modify existing incomplete entries, and also to write on exhibitions and associated events, as well as writing on curators.

There is however one category of entry that cannot be altered: those entries that have undergone the rigorous peer review process.

The Editorial Board has recently upgraded the guidelines for publishing peer reviewed research content on the DAAO. The new guidelines can be found at http://www.daao.org.au/add-research-content/
In particular AAANZ members should note that the minimum length for peer reviewed articles is now 2500 words. This is distinct from the moderated entries which are up to approximately 1000 words. Because the peer reviewed entries are sealed, it is possible to write publish entries on the same artist, as long as the new articles present original scholarship.
The Editorial Board is aware that the DAAO is an incomplete source. We therefore urge AAANZ members to join the DAAO by logging into http://www.daao.org.au/registration/register/  and where appropriate to add details of their research either to existing DAOO entries or to write an article for peer review.
