The AAANZ 2015 conference was recently held in Brisbane. The conference was a great success and from a participants point-of-view it all ran very smoothly, our thanks to the organisers for doing such a great job.

Sessions ranged from Artist’s choreography of the Body en masse to Early Modern Art and Design to Revisionism in Australian art history. The range of topics and speakers (drawn from universities, museums and galleries as well as independent artists and researchers) was an indication of the diverse range of art history, theory and curatorial research being carried out across Australia and New Zealand. You can still read the program here.

The keynote was by Dr Peter Blunt from Victoria University, Wellington who spoke about his current research into Oceanic collections ahead of the planned Oceania exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London in 2018.

This year’s conference was timed to coincide with QAGOMA’s APT 8. Many participants attended both conferences and being based at QAGOMA meant that many of us were able to enjoy the exhibition, before, during and after the AAANZ conference.

The AAANZ prizes were given out, you can see full details of the prize winners here. Our warm congratulations to all the winners, and our thanks to the judges who read through all the entries. The Best Writing by an NZ Maori or Pacific Islander Prize was not awarded this year due to a lack of  nominations. If you know anyone who might be eligible for the prize next year please encourage them to submit an entry in 2016.

The latest ANZJA was launched by Donna West Brett. This is the second issue in volume 15 and is a special issue called Art and Feminism: Twenty-First Century Perspectives edited by Jacqueline Millner, Catriona Moore & Georgina Cole. AAANZ members can access the journal here.

The AGM was held during the conference. Thanks to all members who attended. You can read the President’s report here. We would like to thank outgoing Tasmanian representative Helene Weeding for her service and welcome her replacement Karen Hall.

The 2016 conference will be held at the ANU in Canberra from December 1st to 3rd. The conference organisation is being led by Helen Ennis and Robert Wellington and we look forward to seeing you there next year.
