Call for Papers | Perspective, n ° 2022 – 1 TRANSPORTS

The journal Perspective: actualité en histoire de l’art will devote its n ° 2022 – 1 to the question of the transport of objects and works of art

If the study of the transport of heritage goods has given rise to a substantial specialized literature and remains a major issue for the institutions that preserve them, a historiography of the development and standardization of its practices remains to be considered. Conversely, the history of art, in which the phenomena of artistic circulation and transfers constitute a well-established field of research, too often neglects the most pragmatic aspects of the physical transport of objects.
In addition to its anchoring in the material life of things, the theme of transport also guides towards an alternative history of artistic production, as proposed by Jennifer L. Roberts in her book Transporting Visions. The Movement of Images in Early America (Berkeley, University of California Press, 2014), evoking the case of artists working in full awareness of the future movements of their works.
At the crossroads of these professional, technical, scientific and methodological issues, this delivery intends to put into perspective the ways in which archaeologists, art historians, curators, and all researchers in the human sciences, seize on this question of the transport of objects and works of art and deploy its multiple and fruitful implications.
The proposals must be in line with the editorial line of the journal: without ever being limited to simple case studies , the contributions will ensure to highlight specific historiographical issues and a reflection on the way in which the history of art , heritage history and archeology seize on the notion of transport to think about their methods and scientific frameworks.
Please send your proposals (a summary of 2,000 to 3,000 characters, with a provisional title, a brief bibliography on the subject, and a biography of 2 or 3 lines) to the editorial address ( review-perspective @ inha.fr ) before May 12, 2021 . The authors of the selected articles will be informed of the committee’s decision in June 2021 , while the articles will be due on October 1, 2021 for publication in June 2022 . Submitted papers will be definitively accepted following an anonymous peer review process.
