About the research project

Proposals are sought for PhD projects that can inform innovative modes of creative practice that embrace, explore and exploit reclaimed or second-use local materials and objects to establish ethical, environmentally sound and sustainable approaches to art and design. The research will investigate themes of salvage and repair, the reuse or repurposing of materials, objects and waste, examine ways that we consume the materials and objects of everyday life and the natural world, and inform new future-focussed approaches to creative practice. The research may also incorporate community-engaged creative practices and site-specificity as key methodologies.

The aim of the research is to determine innovative modes of practice in creative art and design and expand current knowledge through critical, creative and experimental engagement with materials, methodologies and discourse.

The project is open to artists and designers from various backgrounds to explore innovative approaches to creative practice and material culture specifically in placed-based settings.

The research will be ideally be undertaken on campus in Hobart, Tasmania. It is open only for prospective candidates who are already based in Australia. As above a relocation allowance of up to $2000 is provided.
