  Expanded Documentary in Aotearoa brings together scholars, artists, practitioners and creative researchers to explore what documentary might be—or become—in Aotearoa New Zealand today. Inspired by Jihoon Kim’s concept of documentary’s “expanded fields,” the conference moves beyond conventional cinematic forms and frames to consider expanded, hybrid, Indigenous, experimental and practice-led approaches to documenting and storytelling. You are invited to two special lectures with Macgeorge visiting speaker Professor Terry Smith in early October, co-presented by the University of Melbourne and the NGV, and as part of the AIAH event series. The Parkville lecture on Wednesday 7 October at 6.30 pm will examine the influence of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave on art from the pre-modern to the contemporary period. Undisciplined is concerned with questions of the transformative effects of crisis in architecture as a discipline. This concern is addressed through the critical examination of a hybrid body of practice-based work, which, although founded on the discipline of architecture, results from its contingent amalgamation with other fields, including contemporary art, politics, and theory.
