Call for Applications | Sir William Dobell Visiting Chair and Fellows 2024

Each year the Centre for Art History and Art Theory in the College of Arts and Social Science may offer up to one position known as the Sir William Dobell Visiting Chair and up to four positions known as the Sir William Dobell Visiting Fellow for the Centre for Art History and Art Theory.

Applications are open from 1/12/2023 and close on 30/01/2024 

Visiting Chair

Value and Benefits

The Visiting Chair will be provided with:

  • AUD $15,000 (domestic-based) and AUD $18,000 (international-based) maximum allowance in costs towards economy-class travel and accommodation in Canberra
  • Up to AU$20,000 in research-related expenses, including living costs
  • An ANU office space with computer and printing facilities
  • ANU Library borrowing privileges
  • Access to ANU facilities and events

Eligibility

The award is available each year to a recipient who:

  • Is a national or international Art Historian or Curator
  • can demonstrate an international reputation as a mid-career or senior scholar in the field of art history or curatorial studies/practice
  • has the ability to travel to, and work in Australia for a period of up to 6 months

Visiting Fellows

Value and Benefits

Each Visiting Fellow will be provided with:

  • AUD $5,000 (domestic-based) and AUD $7,500 (international-based) maximum allowance in costs towards economy-class travel and accommodation in Canberra
  • Up to $2,500 in research-related expenses, including living costs
  • An ANU office space with computer and printing facilities
  • ANU Library borrowing privileges
  • Access to ANU facilities and events

Eligibility

The award is available each year to a recipient/s who

  • Is a national or international Art Historian or Curator
  • can demonstrate a current and emerging career in the practice and/or study of art history, art theory or curatorial practice
  • has the ability to travel to, and work in Australia for a period of up to 3 months
