In the Loop: Story Submission
Garland is the world’s leading platform for stories about makers. We’re grounded in an inclusive community that believes in the power of human-made objects to tell stories of meaning and value. So far, we have published more than 2,000 stories from more than 1,000 writers in nearly 100 countries.
In the Loop shares timely stories from the world of craft and making. We’re looking for short, well-crafted pieces about what’s happening now, including new publications, ground-breaking exhibitions, policies shifting, makers being recognised, communities gathering, obituaries, organisational changes and issues affecting makers. These stories appear on our home page and monthly email newsletters.
What we need from you:
A complete story of 150-200 words, ready to publish. Think of it as a thoughtful news piece, not a press release. We’re a small operation and don’t have the capacity to commission or substantially edit submissions, so please send us your finished work.
Along with your story, we need one strong horizontal image (with caption and credits), and confirmation that you have the rights to publish both text and image.
Stories that work well for In the Loop:
- Important exhibitions with genuine cultural significance
- Policy or political developments affecting artisans and makers
- Publications, including new books and reports
- Obituaries honouring significant figures
- Reports from conferences or major events
- Awards and recognition that matter to the field
- Industry news that connects to our wider world perspective
What doesn’t fit:
- Promotional content or press releases
- Story pitches (we need the finished piece)
- Personal projects, unless truly newsworthy
We review submissions regularly and publish what resonates with our community. Thanks for contributing to the conversation.
You can submit your news story through the link here. We will send you the story URL when it is published.
