Job | Associate Professor / Professor in Art (Head of Discipline) | University of Tasmania

About the Role

Contributing critical support and innovative leadership at either Academic Level D or E, the successful candidate will join the School of Creative Arts and Media as Head of Discipline, Art. Leading the strategic alignment and operational management of the Art program, a priority will be the creation and implementation of a strategy to enhance research and teaching capacity.

In addition to contributing high-quality research of international standing, the successful candidate will supervise higher degree students and lead curriculum innovation and exemplary teaching, committed to enhancing the student experience and securing student load targets.

As a contemporary leader able to foster a positive and collaborative environment, the successful candidate will develop outstanding academic research and teaching capability and build effective relationships within the University, the profession, industry and wider community.

With the transformation of the University of Tasmania’s Northern and Southern campuses and the new Hedberg Building, this is a fantastic opportunity to lead the sustainable and strategic growth of the Art program on campuses in the south (Hobart ) and north (Launceston) of the state and enrich Art engagement within the unique Tasmanian context.

What you’ll need to succeed

As a dynamic and established practice-based academic leader, your relevant PhD will be supported by a record of and ongoing commitment to research and demonstrable academic achievement commensurate with appointment to level D or E (as outlined in the position description).

Your extensive experience and excellence in teaching and learning will display your student focus, digital and blended teaching and curriculum design capability, and flexible multi-location teaching skills.

An understanding of contemporary Universities  as well as creative and cultural industries and the ability to build staff capacity and student load will support innovative leadership to sustainably grow the program and deliver strategic priorities.

Previous achievement and demonstrated success in leadership and promoting Art activities and curriculum improvements will contribute to your achievement in uplifting capability and enhancing student engagement and experience.

On offer is a full-time, ongoing opportunity at Academic Level D or E, with a 3-year concurrent leadership role as Head of Discipline. Appointment to this role will be at Academic Level D or E, with a base salary within the range of $152,077 – $164,925 at Level D and $188,051 – $191,812 at Level E, plus 17% superannuation
